Britax Australia has announced the release of their new Unity Infant Carrier which is now ISOFIX compatible – making it the first ISOFIX compatible infant carrier available in Australia.
What is ISOFIX?
ISOFIX is the standardised international car seat fitting system, which provided parents with the easiest, quickest and most importantly the safest way to install their child’s car seat or infant carrier correctly in just three steps. It replaces the need to use car seat belts in the installation of seat. It uses the two standard seat attachment points located at the base of the rear seat – points which are standard in all new cars manufactured from 2006.
Another important new feature of the Unity, is the addition of closer lap and shoulder straps, especially designed for premature and low birth weight babies. These closer straps ensure these babies don’t slump forward – a common problem in most car seats. During testing, a 2kg dummy was used to stimulate a low birth weight baby, this is compared to other current restraints which are tested with a 4kg dummy – the size of an average 4 week old. This makes the Unity the only infant carrier available in Australia suitable for low birth weight babies.
The new Unity Infant Carrier can also be used as part of a complete travel system with prams from the Britax, Steelcraft and Bob ranges when used with the Click and Go system. The Britax Unity Infant Carrier ISOFIX Compatible will be available from all leading retailers.
