Mum Holds Newly Separated Conjoined Twin for First Time

After an excruciatingly long twenty-seven hour surgery to separate her two conjoined twins Jadon and Anias just a few short weeks ago, Nicole has been counting down the days until she was able to hold them in her arms.

The surgery was painstakingly long and performed by Dr James Goodrich at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Centre where they remain in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

She says holding her son Jadon for the first time as a ‘separated boy’ was “one of the most profound moments of my life” she told CNN who have followed and documented the entire journey.

She held her son for two hours, while Dad Christian rushed back into the hospital to be a part of it all. Jadon is stable but still has a long recovery ahead of him so his small body is still covered with tubes and wires and his parents decided one cuddle was enough for the day as he is still too fragile.

The proud Mother took to her Facebook account and said:

For over 13 months, I’ve dreamed of this moment,

I looked down at Jadon’s angelic face and saw him in a way I’d never seen him before. He whimpered for almost the whole two hours I held him because he had just been extubated, had the area under his scalp washed out and had been weaned from the good pain meds”

But instead of wrapping my body around him in his bed, I wrapped my arms around him and rocked. One of the most profound moments of my life.

Jadon and Anias before surgery

Anias is Jadon’s twin brother who has had a slower recovery episode due to multiple setbacks like seizures which are now under control with the help of medication. It could be a little while before Anias is held by his parents.

Both boys underwent a smaller procedure to clean out their incisions and are both doing well after that.

These twins are so popular on social media that they are trending with #JadonAndAnias

In saying that for the most part, she loves where she's at. Great partner, loving family, amazing friends, living in Melbourne..blah blah right?! There is always something else we want, for her that's a baby, but it's just not happening the way she thought it would. Emily is an infertility blogger who writes of her journey through fertility treatment and the longing to become a Mum in a very real, raw and honest way.
