Parents Forget Newborn Baby in Taxi on the Way Home from the Hospital
No doubt in a haze of sleeplessness and routine, new parents have accidentally left their newborn baby in a taxi in Hamburg, Germany, realising their mistake seconds after paying the fare and watching the taxi drive away.
Hamburg police said that the couple took the baby’s one-year-old sibling out of the car, paid the driver and said goodbye – then realised someone was missing as the taxi pulled away.
Dad’s attempt to catch the cab on foot failed and the driver, unaware of his sleeping stowaway, parked the taxi in an underground garage to go for lunch.
Happily, this story doesn’t end in tragedy as the once-peacefully-sleeping infant made their presence known immediately after waking up.
The driver swiftly called the police and after a quick check-up from an ambulance crew, the baby and its grateful parents were reunited. Police defended the parents and explained they had only been out of the taxi for a few seconds before it drove away.
All is well that ends well, as they say in the classics, and now this poor family will have something to always feel guilty about until the end of time. In a predictable two-fer, this baby will always be able to use this incident as a handy tool to get their way in all future disagreements. “Yeah, well remember that time you forgot you even had me and I was left in a taxi??” Instant argument winner, right there.
Sometimes if you didn’t laugh, you’d cry.
