The receiving blanket that your newborn is wrapped in at hospital as soon as they are born, usually belongs to the hospital and stays at the hospital.
But some of these blankets can accidentally be brought home when mum and baby are released from hospital.
Even if you don’t have a receiving blanket, maybe you have a baby blanket that means a lot to you and you’d like to upcycle it to keep as a memento for your child.
Like the onesies that get upcycled into stuffed animals, crafters are using receiving blankets to create all sorts of creations to preserve their baby’s first blanket.
A grandma in New York has created a business out it and calls her creations ‘Numsies’. The toys come in a range of different forms including bears, elephants, bunnies and more – just from one baby blanket.
If you’re looking to preserve your child’s baby blanket, why not get inspired from some of these creations to make a sentimental keepsake for your child?
- A cuddly teddy bear. You can even personalize the teddy bear by embroidering your baby’s name and birth date on the teddy’s tummy.

Have you preserved your baby’s blanket? What project would you create as a keepsake?
