WATCH: Baby Born ‘En Caul’ as Rare as 1 in 80,000 Births
It’s an amazing moment when a new life comes into the world, and this little baby has made quite the appearance.
A baby born inside the amniotic sac, or ‘the caul’ is seen as rarely as one in every 80,000 births. Some babies are born with some of the sac still attached to them, however to be completely encapsulated after delivery is incredible rare.
In Spain, on Saturday this baby was born as twin 2 after the first twin was delivered, the baby can be seen moments after delivery still inside the amniotic sac which is a fluid filled bad and usually broken throughout the strain of labour of my a Doctor during a caesarean section.
Medical staff can be seen gently prodding the transparent sac and pointing out the little feet of the newborn as it pushes against the sac.
In the video below its clear the newborn baby is wriggling inside and the umbilical cord is still attached to provide oxygen until the first breath is taken outside the sac.
The Doctor will break the sac, which causes a gush of water which is what happens when a woman’s waters break in labour. In what doctors and nurses are calling a ‘once in a lifetime’ medical opportunity, the video of the baby was shared by Gisele Correa, a nurse at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Barretos hospital in Sao Paulo, on her Facebook page on Monday, calling the birth a “historic moment” and saying “Exciting to all team!!! We were waiting to stabilize the first baby and the second came softly, in fact, look there that beautiful!!!”
