A Mother has shared an incredible image of her placenta that shows just how lucky one of her triplet sons is to be alive.
Doctors told Sammi before the triplets were born that she could abort her smallest baby Thomas as he wasn’t developing properly and was a threat to the other two babies.
‘Doctors told me at 25-weeks that it was unlikely Tommy would survive and that he might cause other complications for his unborn brothers. They asked me if I wanted to terminate him, it was awful but I didn’t want to play God,” said Sammi.
Straight after the triplets were born (prematurely at 30 weeks), doctors injected three different coloured inks into the placenta to show each baby’s share of oxygen and nutrient supply.
Doctors were in shock as to how Thomas survived after he was receiving very little compared to his brothers.
‘I couldn’t believe when I saw the dyed placenta, it really hit home what a fighter Tommy is and how far he’s come,’ Sammi said. ‘He had barely any access to food as Geoffrey and Hunter had the lion’s share and doctor’s were amazed he survived.’
‘Now I know the full extent of how lucky Thomas is to be alive it was a good thing they were delivered when they were as if he had stayed in my womb any longer he definitely would’ve passed away. Thankfully they were all born healthy and I can’t wait to finally bring them home to meet their big sister.’
