A Woman Turns Placentas Into Capsules to Help New Mums After Birth

The birth of a baby can bring on so many emotions and health issues in new mothers. There are often some serious postpartum symptoms a mum has to work through while also learning how to raise her newborn.

A new mum can experience all sorts of moods and symptoms after birth. Sometimes she can’t think straight or can experience the baby blues which can develop into anxiety and postpartum depression.

One mum, Carmen Calvo, found herself experiencing these issues a few weeks after the birth of her first child. Five months later she found out she was pregnant again and wanted to make sure she was well enough to look after two babies under 2. It was at this time she researched cures and found that the placenta could hold the answers.

Carmen is now a Placenta Encapsulating Specialist and runs The Nurturing Root in Maryland, USA. Carmen arrives at a new mum’s home, where she prepares the newly birthed placenta and grounds it into powder form, to make capsules for the mum to take after she has given birth.

The placenta has been known to decrease the risks of postpartum depression, bleeding and stabilize iron levels.

The service is one that is quite popular overseas, but it is gaining interest from new mums as they research the benefits of the ingestion of the placenta after birth.

The video is very interesting on how Carmen came to be a placenta encapsulated specialist. She admits that the idea of ingesting her own organ after giving birth was a bit gross and crazy but her research found the benefits of ingesting the placenta could have helped her avoid some of the issues she faced after the birth of her first child.

Now she dedicates her time through The Nurturing Root to ensure other mums stay happy and healthy after they have given birth.

Did you keep your placenta after birth? What are your thoughts about ingesting it to prevent health issues experienced postpartum?
