4 Hacks To See You Through These School Holidays.

The school holidays can be a daunting experience for both parents and children. Two weeks can initially sound like a very long time, when just coming off a structured 10 week term. There are no after school activities, no lunches to pack, no homework to supervise. So in order to ensure you make the most out of these holidays, I’ve put together these four hacks, to see you through until next term!

  • Keep to a routine

The school weeks are regimented and scheduled, so some children may become overwhelmed by the inconsistency of the school holidays. When routine is abandoned, some kids may feel anxious and scattered. Developing some sort of a routine in the holidays can help ease a child into the transition easier. Even small things such as, “on Wednesday’s we’ll have a friend over, on Thursday’s we’ll head out for the day”. This is a great time to create that one school holiday tradition that you all look forward to each and every week.

  • Make time to recharge

The thought of letting work take over in the holiday’s is an appealing thought. There are no school drop offs or inconveniently timed pick up’s, therefore you would have a much longer time slot available in order to finally spring clean the rooms that you’ve been wanting to do for ages. Although as easy as it would be to let your to do list trump these school holidays, it is definitely not how most people recharge themselves. These school holidays, give yourself permission for some leisure time, and make it a priority. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to go through the linen cupboard when they’re back at school. It’s time to slow down and make some memories.

  • Don’t over book yourself

The school holidays should be a time for recharge and replenishment. A time to slow down and be creative, or read, or make time to do all the things we love that we may not have the opportunities to enjoy during term. Don’t over book yourself. Enjoy some free days. Enjoy a sleep in. Enjoy a pyjama day. The calendar doesn’t always have to be full in order for it to mean time well spent.

  • Go outside!

It’s easy to get trapped in the convenience of inside, especially in this weather. Although there is nothing better than sitting in the warm winter sun in order to soak up some healthy Vitamin D. Being outside is great for mental health, for both children and mum and dad, so make sure you don’t just send the kids out. Make a self conscious effort to never go through life realising that you didn’t get outside to enjoy this beautiful world and all it has to offer.

What is your fool proof way to make the most out of your school holidays?
