Sisters Read Bedtime Stories for Other Kids on Facebook Live Each Night

Two sisters from the US have made headlines around the world after their dedication to reading stories to other children goes viral.

Zaria and Hailey Willard, 13 and 8 respectively, have been reading bedtime stories on Facebook Live five nights a week for months now, with thousands of children watching their streams each night.

“We take turns reading,” Zaria explained. “It all started to help kids get a bedtime story because maybe their parents are busy or they don’t have the time to read, so that’s what we are helping.”

Each Sunday, the girls visit the library to pick out books for the week, reading them each weeknight on a Facebook Live video for children to watch live or in their own time afterwards.

Posting to their Facebook page, the girls opened up about how they started their idea and what they hope to achieve.

“My sister and I love to read. Our mom has been reading to us since birth and that, in my opinion, has helped me develop a love for reading. My sister and I were lying in bed one night giggling about something when this idea came about. We presented the idea to my mom and she agreed it would be great. She personally doesn’t want us to be on social media but we all agreed being on it in a positive way would help light the world.

“Our main purpose is to read a book of our choice each night at a designated time so that children can have a bedtime story each night. We are already reading each night but we thought it may be beneficial for children who don’t get this luxury.

“Parents sometimes work late or are too tired for stories. We are not only helping children, we are giving parents a nice break after a long day of work.”

The girls started the project earlier this year in March, clocking up about 50 views per night. They now get anywhere from three to 12 thousand views on their Facebook Live streams each night.
