With over 15,000 kilometres in between them, these two strangers both lost their partners to brain cancer – but what happened after that usually happens in fairy tales.

Jessica Ronne lost her husband of 10 years to brain cancer in August 2010. Ryan Ronne lost his wife of 11 years to the same thing – four days later.

At the time they met, Jessica and Ryan were both writing blogs about their experiences of losing their spouses when a random stranger realised that the two had a lot in common.

She emailed Jessica saying, “There’s this man in Oklahoma who lost his wife four days after you lost your husband and I just think you could be encouraging to him.”

Jessica sent Ryan an email and that is when their love blossomed. The night before Ryan received Jessica’s email, his son had asked him – ‘Daddy, when are we going to get a new Mummy?”

Neither of them were looking for love, but their connection was instant and couldn’t be ignored. They met up in person a month later and Ryan proposed.

They have blended their families and adopted each other’s children – Ryan has three children and Jessica has four – and they are also expecting their first child together next months.
