The Heart-stopping Moment a Mum Saved Her Baby From Being Clipped By a Truck
Pedestrians should have right of way when crossing at a zebra crossing. But sometimes, the rules aren’t always abided in other countries, and even in Australia, it’s a learned behavior to hesitate before a crossing to check if any cars are coming.
One mum in Russia has saved her baby’s life after the stroller her baby was sitting in was nearly wiped out by a truck.
The footage of the incident was captured on the dashcam of another driver who had stopped at the crossing.
The video shows a mum pushing her baby past the first lane of traffic along the crossing, and then as she’s about to push the stroller into the second lane, she immediately pulls back the stroller as the truck rushes past.
The other driver watching the scene unfold beeped to try and warn the crossing group of the oncoming truck.
The driver is heard gasping as the truck flies by.
The truck doesn’t stop to slow down, nor does it check to see if the child and mum are alright.
The horrifying incident took place in south-western Russia’s Rostov Oblast region in the city of Rostov on Don.
The video has caused controversy with some claiming the mum is at fault for crossing and not checking the traffic. Weird how one driver was able to stop at the crossing and gave the pedestrians right of way.
Despite the controversy, the video is a good reminder to always check the roads when crossing with children and to always anticipate traffic, even if you have the right of way at a crossing.
And for drivers, it’s a big reminder to always anticipate pedestrians – especially at crossings. The guilt of causing injury or death to someone from not concentrating on the road is something one has to live with the rest of their life.
Well done to the mum who used her instincts to save her baby. We’re so glad no one was hurt.
