Man Awakens from Coma Just in Time to See His Wife Give Birth Days After She Saved His Life

In what can only be described as a massive few days, one new mum has given birth to her first baby and celebrated the recovery of her comatose husband after saving his life.

Gosh, as if new motherhood isn’t enough to deal with!

Ashley Goette was awoken in the night to hear her husband Andrew gasping for breath next to her. Thirty-nine weeks pregnant with their first child, Ashley quickly rang emergency services and was advised to perform CPR on her husband until paramedics arrived. Acting fast, the medics re-started his heart and rushed him to hospital.

Andrew suffered a suspected heart attack and was placed in a coma to reduce possible brain damage. Doctors told a no-doubt distraught Ashley that it was unclear if her husband would survive or suffer brain damage or further complications if he did pull through.

“In the first hours of treatment at the ER and ICU, the prognosis was dire,” the family wrote on a GoFundMe page they created to help raise funds for medical costs.

“CT and MRI scans, along with clinical signs, pointed to catastrophic brain injury. The team of specialists treating Andrew prepared the family for the worst…it was likely he would not wake up from this.”

As Ashley sat by the father-to-be’s bedside, she insisted that she would wait until he woke up to have the baby.

Happily, that is exactly what happened!

A couple of days later, the nurses began to remove the sedatives keeping Andrew in a coma. He showed no signs of a neurological injury and continued to improve over the following 36 hours.

Then it was Ashley’s turn!

The wonderful nursing staff made arrangements to move Andrew into Ashley’s labouring room and delay his scheduled heart procedure to Monday so they could be together.

Ashley was induced overnight but ultimately required an emergency c-section to deliver their son early the next morning, and although Andrew was not able to gown up and attend the delivery, he was able to watch via Facetime from the next room.

Little Lennon “Lenny” Andrew Goette was born three days after his mother saved his father’s life.

Andrew continues to make a good recovery and has since undergone a successful procedure to completely resolve his heart arrhythmia.
