A trip to the park is always an exciting outing for little kids. They get to run around, explore a new environment and have fun on the slides and swings.
Unfortunately, one little girl had a traumatizing experience on a slide that has caused her to fear going to a playground again.
Amy Smith took her toddler daughter, Demi-Mae, to her favourite playground at Kitson Park, in Torquay, England. It was Demi-Mae’s favourite playground as it had a tunnel slide.
The mum let her toddler loose, noticing there was nobody around, and found a comfortable spot to watch her daughter go down the slide.
Demi-Mae ran to the tube slide, but stayed in there longer than usual, and then emerged from the slide in tears.
Amy rushed to her daughter to find out what was wrong and was sick to discover Demi-Mae’s bottom and the top of her legs were covered in cuts that had drawn blood.
Upon inspection of the slide, it was found that someone had maliciously placed shards of broken glass on a portion of the slide. Some of the shards had embedded themselves into Demi-Mae’s legs.
The mum rushed her daughter to hospital where she received special care for the cuts.
The toddler is now recovering at home, but she has a fear of going down tube slides as a result of the incident.
According to the Mirror, Smith and Demi-Mae had been to the park multiple times before and had never had any issues.
Smith urges all parents to inspect the play equipment at parks before allowing kids to play on it.
Smith wishes she had inspected the slide before her daughter went on it, but she never expected that someone would intentionally try to hurt a young child by placing shards of broken glass in the slide.
So far, the culprit hasn’t been found. In the mean-time, the incident serves as a warning to parents to check the playground before letting their kids loose to play.
