Sex After Baby: How Soon is Too Soon? A Mum Vlogger Get’s Real With This Viral Video
If you’ve ever wondered how soon is too soon to have sex after having a baby, Riona O Connor is happy to give some motherly advice.
The mum and vlogger got real on a Facebook video that was titled, “Sex After Baby – How Soon is Too Soon?”
The hilarious clip shows a flamboyant O Connor sharing about her and hubby’s first experience of having sex after their baby. The mum is quick with details like “ 2.5 seconds into doing the deed, two things happened…”
First, O Connor and her hubby discovered her downstairs was as “dry as the sahara dessert” and the second thing that happened, the baby woke up.
You can’t not laugh at the way O Connor details what most mums think and experience after attempting post partum sex.
But the time frame of when to have sex after having a baby is a concern to new mums as they can feel anxious about not pleasing their partner and depriving them of their sexual needs.
O Connor shares her opinion to these concerns: He will wait. Be patient. It’s how mother natured intended it. Everything is a “jumble down there” and it needs time to heal and get back to normal.
The video has been watched over 355k times and has received over 2000 reactions.
Many mums opened up after the video and shared their own experiences of having sex after a baby with one mum admitting, “8 months have passed and, not through lack of trying, I think roadworks have taken place and it’s now a dead end.”
While another shared a warning on what can happen by jumping back onto the saddle too soon.
“My midwife had this conversation with me during one of those “quiet moments” after giving birth and told me about a lovely young girl whose boyfriend turns up to see her and the baby in the hospital ward the day after giving birth and finds it odd that the curtain gets drawn around her bed..then hears the noises…
Yep- they were right at it no less than 24hrs after popping one out, in the middle of a public ward. 9 months later she was back again to pop another one out.
Now if that lovely image isnt enough to put you off for a while, I dont know what is.”
The point of the video is to encourage mums not to pressure themselves into having sex too soon after birth. It doesn’t matter what other mums have done in the past. It’s what’s right for you and what your doctor recommends.
Most doctors recommend at least 6 weeks before any sexual activity after the birth of a baby.
If you’re keen to get back on the saddle sooner, check with your doctor. And if you’re not planning to have another baby in 9 months time, take adequate contraception.
