Women Swear This Salad Helped Them go Into Labour – The Magic May be in The Dressing

When you’re pregnant and overdue with your baby, you will give anything a go to bring on labour. Some women claim castor oil or pineapples can get the baby to come out. Others use a variety of methods like having sex or acupuncture.

For pregnant women who are overdue residing in California, there is a café that can offer a dish to bring on labour. Caioti’s Pizza Cafe has been made famous because of its dish known as ‘The Salad’ which has helped kickstart labour for many overdue women.

The cafe has anywhere from five to twenty pregnant ladies that come in and order the salad. There are lots of tired men that order the salad as takeaway too.

The legend of the salad started 28 years ago when a pregnant lady came and ate the salad and started having contractions.

Carrie Ladou, Owner of the café, told Buzzfeed since that incident, pregnant women come in to eat The Salad hoping for the same outcome.

While the café doesn’t make any official claims their signature dish will bring on labour, there is a lot of proof that speaks otherwise.

The café has a plaque on the wall filled with names of babies who arrived after their mum digested ‘The Salad’. Even Carson Daly’s wife, Siri Pinter, had the salad to induce labour. She gave birth two days later to her daughter Etta Jones.

All mums who order The Salad can sign a special guest book. Some leave messages of encouragement for other overdue mums-to be, while others have left messages to their unborn baby to simply “GET OUT”.

The Salad comprises of romaine lettuce, watercress, walnuts and Gorgonzola cheese, dresses with a balsamic basil vinaigrette dressing that is said to be the secret weapon that brings on labour. The dressing has a mixture of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and other herbs and seasonings, but the full recipe is top secret. Even staff have signed confidentiality agreements to keep the recipe a secret.

Of course, there’s nothing stopping pregnant women all over to create a similar salad and vinaigrette dressing.

Either that or a babymoon to California where the dressing can be purchased from the café in anticipation of what could be… just in case.
