Andrea Rivas and Sandi Palmisano met on an online IVF support group when they were both struggling to conceive any children.
Andrea and her husband Mark had a set of twins through IVF and two years later, after it was discovered that Sandi couldn’t carry a baby full term, Andrea stepped in and became a surrogate for her.
She delivered their healthy babies, EmmaLee and Grayson, in 2014 after agreeing to become a gestational carrier.
And now, 30-year-old Andrea has just welcomed a third healthy set of twins, which her and husband Mark conceived naturally this time.

‘My husband Mark and I decided we were not going to go through fertility treatments again,’ she says. ‘It was definitely not something that we wanted to put my body through after two twin pregnancies. We felt like our family was complete but if we were blessed with another baby that would be great, because I always wanted to see what it would be like to just have one baby and not go back and forth between two infants.’
She was stunned when six months after delivering Sandi’s twins, she started feeling nauseous and discovered she was pregnant.
The couples love talking about the fact that four years after meeting, they’re friendship has gone from 4 people to 10.
Sandi says: ‘I say to Andrea, “Do you remember when we talked about this years ago saying we’d just be happy with one healthy baby each? That’s all any of us were looking for at the time when we first met. And now between the two of us we have six babies. It’s almost impossible to put into words.’
