We all hope that our children will develop a fierce bond with their siblings, and this video is a reminder that it is possible. A video of a brother reacting with sincere emotion to his sister’s pregnancy announcement has gone viral after being shared on Facebook on Friday night. The video was shared on the Love What Matters Facebook page to remind people that there is love in the world.
Lindsay MacPhee-Currie is the sister in the video. She was it would be difficult for her to have children as she was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 27 years old. After six months of intense treatment including a lumpectomy, four sessions of chemotherapy and 29 sessions of radiation, doctors told Lindsay all looked clear. She was told that her treatment would affect her fertility and this was confirmed when doctors found a cyst on her ovary when she was 30. Lindsay and her husband had to look at fertility treatments to start a family.
“One doctor came in and said, ‘I am so sorry to tell you and I don’t quite know how to tell you this, but you’re slipping in and out of menopause and your chances of conceiving are pretty well next to none,'” Lindsay told The Huffington Post.
Lindsay didn’t let the news discourage her and her husband. They looked into adopting, but after starting the adoption process, Lindsay became quite sick. The 36-year-old thought she had food poisoning, but three pregnancy tests later, it was confirmed that she was expecting a baby in August 2014.
Lindsay was keen to tell her brother who she describes as ‘the most amazing brother you could ever have’ and filmed his reaction when she announced her pregnancy.
Lindsay’s baby is now 14 months old but she felt led to share the video of her brother’s reaction to her pregnancy news after the terrible events that have occurred in Orlando in the last week.
“There’s so much tragedy happening in the world lately and that’s kind of all you’re seeing,” she said.
The video has been received well after it was shared on the Love What Matters Facebook Page. The video has been viewed over 524,000 times.
Lindsay hopes the video with encourage others in the midst of fertility issues, to stir up hope and not give up. Her brother’s reaction is proof that there is still good in the world.
“For the world to see that reaction, I think it restores faith in humanity and that there is still a lot of love out there,” she said.
Thank you so much for sharing our story. I still cry every time I see it and it’s my story. lol. My hope was that a few people would see it and either feel the good emotions once they saw it, or that it would bring hope to those facing the same or similar challenge. I had no idea it would go that viral. Again, thank you.
