Dads can often be notorious for doing daggy things to embarrass their kids.

But one dad in Utah decided to ‘embarrass’ himself to make his 6-year-old daughter feel better.

Ben Sowards, artist, author and father to 11 children, received a call from his wife that their 6-year-old daughter had a toilet accident at school and needed to be picked up.

The dad knew his daughter would have been embarrassed by the accident.

Sowards told the Huffington Post, “Honestly, I knew she was mortified, but I thought if I could make her laugh everything would be fine.”

He then went to pick up his daughter with a wet crotch.

When Valerie was waiting for her dad at the principal’s office, Sowards went into the office, and asked Valerie if he could borrow her book bag. Valerie was confused and then she saw her dad’s pants.

“She was totally exasperated. But, once she saw my pants, I got that look from her where I knew everything was OK. All dads know what look I’m talking about,” Sowards said. “And we just strolled out of the school like nothing was happening.”

Sowards’ 17-year-old daughter, Lucinda, took some photos of the pair when they came home and decided to share them on Twitter, not to embarrass her little sister even more, but to simply recognise how awesome their dad was for making them feel valued and understood.

The post on Twitter went viral and was retweeted 62,000 times and received over 253,000 likes.

One tweeter made the correlation of Sowards and a scene from the movie Billy Maddison where Billy wets his pants with water and makes out it’s cool, after a friend has an accident.

Sowards admitted, “I remember the movie and that may have been somewhere in my subconscious, but when you’re a parent you work on instinct.”

Lucinda explained to the Huffington Post that it was in her dad’s nature to make his kids feel understood with humour.

“I got a massive black eye and he FaceTimed me and had vividly painted a black eye that matched mine on himself,” she said.

Little Valerie is doing fine after getting more attention from her accident.

“She’s doing great,” Lucinda said. “She’s learned to laugh about it and thinks what my dad did was hilarious.”
