Popular Australian surf store City Beach has removed a so called ‘prank product’ from it’s shelves after one outraged mother took to their Facebook page to voice her concerns.  The product manufactured by novelty product brand Bigmouth Inc. is a fake pregnancy test that always returns a positive pregnancy result, and according to the packaging is good for ‘marriage extortion, laughs.’

The woman, (who has chosen to remain anonymous after receiving some abusive troll comments via the Facebook page), was shopping with her 7 month old daughter in the North Lakes City Beach store when she saw the product.

“I demanded to see the store manager (apparently no one but the checkout girl was available to talk to me).

I told her how offensive it is and that it wasn’t funny at all and that they should remove the ‘joke product’ immediately. Then another lady who was a little elder than me with her two girls in their pram came up behind me and added to the conversation that she went through 8 treatments of IVF and luckily ended up with twins but it was so heart wrenching for her after several miscarriages and that she too found the product very offensive.

She told me she was a bit shy and wanted to say something but didn’t have the guts and that she was glad I spoke up.

The shop girl in City Beach told me they won’t remove the product from their shelves because it’s the ‘buyers’ job to ensure all products sold are bought according to City Beaches standards.”

In her post on the City Beach Facebook page received hundreds of likes and shares she says:

“After posting this picture on my 100+ members mothers group we’ve all come to the conclusion that this is ridiculously offensive.  You do realise young teenage girls shop in your stores right? You do realise that many mothers (including not-yet mothers) have gone through countless and expensive IVF procedures in order to actually achieve a positive result on a REAL pregnancy stick.”

Unfortunately due to some disturbing comments she has since taken her post down.

“I never expected that posting my opinions would attract comments like “I hope your baby dies,” she told news.com.au.

In response to the social media backlash City Beach have removed the offensive product from it’s shelves in all it’s stores.

Marketing manager of City Beach Joshua Henry Hicks commented:

“In light of the concerns raised on Facebook, we have decided to remove the Prank Pregnancy Test from all of our stores effective immediately.

It was never our intention to cause offense and we apologise unreservedly for any distress the product may have generated for any customers.”
