Gift Box Tampons: Giving one for one, is a new organic feminine hygiene project on Kickstarter, that has a vision of donating their products one-for-one to homeless women.
In Australia alone, there are over 85,000 homeless women each year who struggle to access sanitary products. That works out to over 46,000 women each month and includes almost 18,000 young women and girls aged 12-24.
When ex-Neighbours actress Saskia Hampele learned of these shocking statistics last year, she started making a plan to do something about it. Appalled by the lack of sustainable resources for women struggling to access sanitary care, Saskia developed a model that would take something that every woman needs, and use the proceeds to help women in need. Alongside her husband Kayne Tremills, the pair enlisted the help of a few friends (and some well-known faces) to bring this idea to life.
In Australia each year, over 1.1 million women live in poverty and struggle to afford sanitary products each month. 85,000 women access homelessness services each year, and 25% are young women and girls aged 12-24 (homelessnessaustralia.org.au). Homelessness in Australia affects thousands of women each month, and with limited access to safe, affordable feminine hygiene, many are forced to create makeshift pads and tampons using newspaper, toilet paper, sponges, rags, even dead leaves and bark.
Inspired by socially conscious business models like ‘Tom’s Shoes’ and ‘Who Gives a Crap’ toilet paper, Gift Box set out to create a brand that offers consumers the same quality and price as competing brands, but will be giving back to those less fortunate.
With every box of Gift Box 100% Organic Tampons purchased, Gift Box will donate one-for-one to a woman in need.
Gift Box has partnered up with Share the Dignity to ensure that our donations are delivered to the women who need it most.
Our dream is that every woman worldwide has access to safe, clean, and great quality sanitary products. So we created Gift Box – a 100% organic feminine hygiene range with a heart, where we donate our product, one-for-one, to those in need.
Gift Box is about creating a sustainable support program, so for every tampon and pad purchased, we will donate one to a less fortunate woman in Australia, and eventually worldwide.
The concept of ‘GIFT BOX’ is a tongue-in-cheek take on literally just that: a gift for your box. We have sourced the highest quality 100% organic cotton tampons from a certified organic manufacturer in Europe – so we haven’t compromised on quality. They will be shipped to and packed in Australia using recycled kraft paper boxes, ensuring all aspects of the product are ethical and fair-trade.
