Giggle and Hoot to End After Ten Years and 11 Seasons of Settling Our Little Ones to Sleep Each Night

Giggle and Hoot to End After Ten Years and 11 Seasons of Settling Our Little Ones to Sleep Each Night

“What a day it’s been, what a magic day…”

Sometime in 2020, parents all over Australia will miss hearing Giggle and Hoot’s famous lullaby soothing and singing their little ones into an easy transition to sleepy times as the long-running programme has announced that they are calling it quits.

The popular evening show has been the soundtrack to our bath and bedtimes for ten years and eleven seasons, but unfortunately, now it’s time for Hoot to finally go.

Libbie Doherty, Head of ABC Children’s, said: “Giggle and Hoot has had a remarkable production run over more than a decade, capturing the hearts and minds of generations of pre-schoolers and their families.

“After celebrating the show’s 10th birthday, Jimmy spoke with us and we both agreed the time was right to opt out while we were still on top.”

James Rees, now a 32-year old father of three, was in his early twenties when he embarked on his famous role as Jimmy Giggle. His goofy smile and lovely demeanour were welcomed into our homes every night and soon he became something of a heartthrob with mums everywhere.

“I’ve loved every day as Jimmy Giggle,” Rees said.

“After 10 years I decided that it was time to take on the next exciting challenge in my career, while also being able to dedicate more time to performing as Jimmy Giggle live in concert, a part of the job that I love so much.

“Performing on Dancing With The Stars was pretty incredible and I have since tried my hand at FM radio, which has been great,” he added.

“I am feeling really great about 2020 – bring it on!”

If your little ones love Giggle and Hoot as much as mine do, it might be time to start stocking up by recording the episodes each night while they last. The 11th and final series of Giggle and Hoot will continue to air across late 2019 and early 2020 before finishing production.

It’s going to be a hard act to follow, that’s for sure.

Thanks for everything Jimmy, Hoot and Hootabelle!
