Premature Baby Born Mid-flight

Need some extra Airline points? Have a baby on Cebu Pacific Air and you might score a million of them.

Five hours into a nine hour flight from Philippines to Dubai a fellow passenger has captured and documented the eight week premature birth of a baby girl on board.

Missy Berberabe Umandal was the passenger on board who took it upon herself to document the arrival of the tiny tot on her Facebook page, which has now gone viral.

As if giving birth isn’t hard enough, this Mum who was travelling alone started contracting just over half way through her long haul flight. The cabin crew were able to move her to the front of the plane and Umandal said “Luckily there were two nurses among the passengers”

She went on to describe the quick birth saying, “We only heard one semi-loud screech and a few seconds later, there were tinier, cute screeches and it was when we knew the baby was born.”

Capturing a photo on her phone of the new Mum and baby, who quickly moved back into a seat Missy wrote “Had the most ‘NORMAL’ flight ever.

The shocked and bewildered new mum was given room to wash the baby down and fellow passengers flying with their own children reached out and gave her some clothing and blankets to dress and wrap the brand new baby.

The pilot made an emergency landing in India, doubling the travelling time for the passengers although I am sure no one complained knowing that a baby born two months premature needed immediate medical assessment as did the new mum.

Emily Lockley is 32, which she thinks is a great age by the way, still young enough to want to have fun and just old enough to not really care about the dramas of your twenties.and not where she thought she would be. In saying that for the most part, she loves where she's at. Great partner, loving family, amazing friends, living in Melbourne..blah blah right?! There is always something else we want, for her that's a baby, but it's just not happening the way she thought it would. Emily is an infertility blogger who writes of her journey through fertility treatment and the longing to become a Mum in a very real, raw and honest way.
