A Mum Who Gave Birth to Three Children in 11 Months Gets Real About Body Image on Social Media

A mum who has given birth to three children within 11 months has shared a picture of her tummy on Instagram, with an honest post about body image.

Eliza Curby is mum to 19-month-old daughter Charlie and 8-month-old twin boys, Jack and Wolfe.

The mum of three shared a photo on Instagram on the 5th September, showing her tummy, and a openly admitting she loves her body.

She wrote in the caption,

Just because.. Because I’m not embarrassed of the scars my body now carries. Because I’m proud of what my body has done for me. Because many women feel the need to hide it. Because famous women post “look at my body just three weeks postpartum” and portray unrealistic images of what it means to be a mother. Because I feel beautiful in my own skin – even if there’s alotttt of it! Because beauty takes many forms. Because I can. Because you should also be proud. This is me… because I love my body.

The mum shared her photo and message of body love to encourage other mums with similar looking tummies.

She told the HuffPost she was prompted to share the honest photo after “Beyoncé posted her postpartum body photo a few months back”, and “something just didn’t sit right with me.”

“And so came my post. Sure it’s not glamorous. But it’s real,” she explained. “And I meant what I said. I really am not embarrassed or ashamed, and I wanted other women to feel better about their post baby bodies if they don’t look like Kim Kardashian or Beyoncé or whoever else. I wanted to encourage women to accept and feel comfortable in their own skin.”

Celebrities in magazines, showing of their amazing post-partum bodies, aren’t giving a realistic view of what a woman looks like after birth. Curby felt it important to challenge those that share their flawless post-partum bodies on Instagram.

“I want other women to see a contrast to the constant bombardment of celebrities in magazines looking like they never had a baby just three days after birth,” she said. “I want to challenge other Instagram influencers who post photos flaunting their ‘one week postpartum body’ that looks flawless.”

The mum wants real to be celebrated and acknowledged.

“Let’s keep realities real and make women feel good about themselves!” said the mum.

Amen to that!

Most photos posted by new Mums are simply not realistic to others. Sometimes I wonder if some of them are photoshopped. It would be denied even if it was. Let’s face it each time you become pregnant your stomach is stretched whether you like it or not. Having twins means your skin is stretched a lot more. I have seen Mums who are expecting twins. All of us would love to know how some Mums manage to have no stretched skin at all.
