One in Five Mums Regret Their Baby’s Name
A new survey conducted by Mumsnet has found one in five mums regret their baby’s name.
Despite all the research and consideration in finding the right name for their baby, if given the chance to go back, they would have changed it.
The results showed over 30% of respondents regretted their baby’s name within the first six weeks of birth.
The most common reason parents regretted their baby’s name was because it was too common.
Yet despite having ‘namer’s remorse’, many are reluctant to change their baby’s name.
A unique name is still a motivating factor when choosing a baby name. But not too unique as the Kessler family found after changing their daughter’s name from Ottilie to Margot so friends and family could pronounce her name.
The drawbacks of having a unique name are the constant mispronunciations and being asked for the correct spelling.
Every parent-to-be has to weigh up the pros and cons of choosing a unique name versus a popular one.
At the end of the day their child is the one that has to live with it, and parents are the ones that will have to say it and write it on forms and cards for the rest of their life.
Have you ever felt ‘namer’s remorse’ after naming your baby? Are you happy with the name you chose for your baby?
